A BIT ABOUT US

Over twenty years ago, the idea for this system came. It was an aluminum casting with one of the two factory carbs reworked internally and a custom-made air filter. The kit sold for around $349.95, which was a good price for what it was. Over time, the old Yamaha carbs became junk. It was time to come up with a new design for better performance that provided years of service and would fit all models. That’s when the KJS Single-Carb Manifold System was born. While the aluminum manifold ran hot at 155 degrees, the new composite design runs cooler at just 85 degrees. A cooler fuel charge means greater piston thrust. With this new design  better performance was not only achieved, but years of service and reliability was now the norm.

But don't take our word for it. See what our customers are saying just below.  Also see the article at the bottom of this page, which explains all the technical details as to why a one carb system is better than two.

TESTIMONIALS

Hundreds of riders worldwide who were looking to get more performance from their Yamaha V-Stars and Viragos turned to KJS Motorcycle Works for the high performance single carb intake manifold system.

[I] Adjusted the PMS screw 1/2 turn. You were right ….it was running too lean. Throttle is nice and smooth, no jumps, and the idle is consistent. Running like a champ. Thanks again for all your help, and for a great product. It’s delivered the performance i want with the ease of tuning for a lot less $ than i had planned. Was going to change out pistons, cams, valve springs, ect. ect. You’ve saved me thousands. Thanks.

Just wanted to let you know of the great big difference in my bike’s performance. It runs better than new. When I started for the first time it fired up and right away I could feel and hear the performance. You make a great product and the K&N fits and looks sharp. Keep up the good work!

Pat of Rhode Island / 85 1000 Virago

I want to thank you for coming down and installing my manifold for me back in March. This past Monday I went for a 250 mile ride with my brother and cousin. They both ride Kawasaki 1500’s and they were both surprised at the way my bike ran. My 1100 Star had no problem hanging with them even at 85+ mph. My bike is also averaging about 50 mpg running at 65 mph (with a couple of 1 to 2 mile 85 to 90 mph stretches). It has made a great difference in total performance of the bike. It rides smoother, and has enough torque to climb a tree and riding 2 up is like riding single. Keep up the good work and take care.

WHY ONE CARB?

Since we came up with the original KJS Virago Manifold, there have been a lot of Yamaha riders wondering how one-carb can possibly be more efficient than two?

With one balanced manifold, each cylinder is able to receive an equal fuel charge. Equal fuel charge produces an equalized bang, which creates more power thrust. This is how a single-carb manifold system is able to supply both cylinders with a consistent intake manifold pressure. The fuel charge naturally "falls in," thereby creating an even power thrust when the valve opens. With a one-carb per jug system, it is forced to draw from belly of the carb, thereby receiving the charge near the end of the stroke.

Will a single-carb give you more HP & torque?

Yes, at the bottom end where it's needed. And you will still have all your top end. If you are a drag racer, then experiment with cams, pistons, etc., to give you the performance you require. But for a great, all-around ride, the stock Yamaha configuration is perfect. At 65 MPH, if you stay in 5th gear when passing, you will feel the power climb without having to drop into 4th gear to pass safely.

The power you need, when you want it!

If a one-carb per cylinder is all that, then ask yourself two questions. 1) Why doesn't a Chevy V8 engine have 8 carbs; and 2) Why does Harley -Davidson consistently use one-carb on their bikes for over a 100 years?

Because the KJS high-performance design is such a monumental break-through, our customers are more than just satisfied----they are blown-away by the absolute thrill of receiving a "new" bike, once installed.
